About Our Bottle

Why ‘The Natural Bottle’?

In the face of growing environmental concerns surrounding plastic pollution, Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) have emerged as promising alternatives to conventional petrochemical-based plastics. Produced by microorganisms through fermentation, PHAs are biodegradable and biocompatible polymers. Significantly, recent advancements enable the utilization of organic waste as a feedstock, diminishing the reliance on primary crops. Unlike single-molecule polymers, PHAs encompass a family of related polymers, each with unique characteristics and diverse properties, making them suitable for various applications. By carefully selecting the monomers incorporated into the polymer chain during synthesis, scientists can tailor the properties of PHAs to meet specific needs.

Today, more than 150 PHAs with different polymer structures have been identified by scientists. This diversity highlights the immense potential of PHAs to replace a wide range of conventional plastics. The Ellen MacArthur Foundation has listed PHAs as potential substitutes in single-use products like food packaging, straws, and cutlery for polyolefins, polyethylene terephthalate, polystyrene, and polyvinyl chloride. This recognition underscores the growing interest in PHAs as sustainable alternatives to conventional plastics. PHA’s biodegradability and biocompatibility in marine environments are particularlynoteworthy.

Unlike conventional plastics that break down into microplastics, PHAs are completely degraded by microorganisms, leaving no harmful microplastics and toxics behind. PHAs’ bio- degradability and compatibility with marine environments, a crucial advantage in combating microplastic pollution, coupled with their reduced carbon footprint, are key market drivers for The Natural Bottle.
